Martial Arts Biography

Martial Arts Biography

This is my Martial Arts Biography page. I started doing martial arts at the age of 4yrs while in kindergarten. At that time karate was my thing as it was also taught at my preparatory school. For the record, I attended Vaz Preparatory School (one of the best in the entire Caribbean). I continued practicing karate until the end of Grade 5 by which time I had sat and passed my Black Belt promotional grading examinations. By that time I had started to develop a very strong liking for Monkey Kung Fu and having watch a few kung fu movies that featured this technique and we later found out that Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung is the real Monkey King and we soon made contact with them at Tai Shing Pek Kwar International Kung Fu Federation where I was granted full membership by Master Chan Kai Leung.

In October of 2002 my dad and I attended a Martial Arts extravaganza held at the Hilton Hotel where for the first time we saw Northern Shaolin Kung Fu in real life. Si-Hing Joshua Jureidini blew our breath away with an exceptional display of Monkey Kung Fu and I immediately decided that I had to start practicing kung fu. My blackbelt grading was conducted in June of 2003 and I started kung fu in September of that same year and I think it fair to say that I have not looked back since.

In August of 2005 I sat and passed my black sash grading examination which I know to be one of my proudest moments in my martial arts career.  It was after this time that I was able to practice monkey boxing following in the footsteps of Si-hing Joshua who had migrated overseas. Presently I know two Monkey Forms (i.e. one emptyhand and one weapon form) along with my other curriculum forms. I have to admit that Monkey Boxing was much more difficult than I had first thought nonetheless I am determined to do very well at it.

I have stopped training at my former kwoon and as I said in my blog, there are a number of factors that contributed to this decision. Primary among them is my boredom and to some extent frustration, however I am still training but I am now focusing on genuine Tai Shing Pek Kwar from this point onward and I had planned to visit Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung and Master Chan Kai Leung in Vancouver, Canada,  the summer of 2007, however as has been the case for the past three years, I was unable to make the trip; lets see what happens next summer. I am still undecided about whether to continue training in the future. Kung fu has done a lot for me as I am unbeaten on the International circuit in forms (i.e. long weapons and emptyhand) and point fighting; am also unbeaten in sparring and emptyhand forms on the local Jamaica circuit and while it would be great to continue training, I am at the stage in my school life where preparation for examinations have now begun to take precedence over martial arts. This is the end of my Martial Arts Biography page.
